INSTRUCTORS / COURSE CONTENT
Instructors are independent contractors. Prospective instructors determine their own course content and course description, then submit a proposal and class outline. The Recreation Divison does not test or independently evaluate their competency to teach (although for higher risk classes, appropriate certifications and/or liability insurance may be required), and does not directly supervise them once the classes have begun.

Code of Conduct for Recreation Programs

Recreation programs are designed to offer participants an opportunity to meet other people with similar interests and try out an activity in a fun, safe environment.

When participants abide by the following guidelines, we can ensure enjoyable and positive experiences for all.

Your voluntary participation in our programs is your consent to follow these behavior standards and expectations.

  • We ask all participants to respect themselves, other participants, staff members, instructors, other park users and school district staff. Participants must be respectful of City and School District property and comply with site regulations.
  • Participants are expected to know and understand rules associated with an activity and follow them to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
  • Harsh verbal words, tone of voice, foul language, sexually inappropriate behavior, or gestures will not be tolerated.
  • Participants have the right to participate in an environment where all participants can achieve their full potential without being impeded by discrimination or harassment based on race, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, political affiliation, veteran’s status, disability, sexual orientation gender identity, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state or local nondiscrimination laws.

Consequences:

Any participant who engages in discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise objectionable behavior is subject to the following actions and removal from the program. When a participant’s behavior, adult or child, is deemed inappropriate, the following steps will be taken:

  1. If behavior is deemed inappropriate a staff member will verbally request that the behavior be discontinued. Participants are expected to comply with the request.
  2. If the inappropriate behavior continues a meeting will be held with staff and participant to discuss expected changes. A written report will be filed regarding the incident(s)

**In extreme cases of unacceptable behavior that is physically threatening to other participants or staff, the recreation department reserves the right to immediately remove a participant from a program.
