City Events

The City of Capitola has a rich tradition of providing the community with a variety of visual and performing art events. Some examples include the Wednesday night Twilight Concerts, which are held throughout the summer months in Esplanade Park, featuring live bands and musical styles from jazz, western, Latin and swing, to blues and good old rock & roll. Select summer Sundays offer Sunday Art at the Beach events, with quality art vendors. Family-friendly Movies on the Beach arrive Friday evenings in August and September. See each event below for dates and details.

The Capitola Twilight Concerts are held Wednesdays 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. June - August. The Concerts are held at the Esplanade Park Bandstand, with the one of largest dance floors around.  Bring a picnic or dine at one of our many area restaurants, many of whom sponsor our concerts.  Seating is on the lawn, seawall, benches or the beach. Please bring your low back chairs or picnic blankets. Warm jackets suggested for cool evenings.  No alcohol or dogs in the park or on the beach.

Interested in performing for one of our events? The submission window for summer 2024 has closed, but.check back in September 2024 for application to apply for summer 2025.

Enjoy an afternoon in Capitola at the Sunday Art at the Beach event this summer at Esplanade Park overlooking the Monterey Bay. Browse quality artwork including painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry and mixed media from local artists. This family friendly event is free and open to the public.

Capitola Plein Air Capitola Plein Air

Capitola Plein Air past shows welcomed up to 40 professional artists to visit Capitola to paint the town...literally!  Artists set up their easels on the cliffs, shores and streets of beautiful Capitola to paint live for four days. We had hundreds of paintings on display for sale and entered into competitions during the final day while the exhibition was held. Capitola Recreation offers a Parents Night Out at Capitola Community Center. This is a perfect place for your child to spend a fun Saturday evening with new friends while you enjoy a moment to yourself. Your child will have a great evening with games, pizza and a movie all while in a safe and supportive environment.

Clothing Exchange Spring 2024 Women's Clothing Exchange

Come join Capitola Recreation Women’s Clothing Exchange and turn your unwanted clothes into “new to you”. Bring your unwanted, gently used, clean and scent free clothing, shoes and accessories and swap for as much as your closet will hold. Any items not claimed will be donated. All sizes welcome. Arrive on time to sort clothes and get a peek at what’s available.

Clothes Organizing begins at 10am and trading begins at 10:15am. 

When: Saturday, May 25th from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
