City Events

The City of Capitola has a rich tradition of providing the community with a variety of visual and performing art events. Some examples include the Wednesday night Twilight Concerts, which are held throughout the summer months in Esplanade Park, featuring live bands and musical styles from jazz, western, Latin and swing, to blues and good old rock & roll. Select summer Sundays offer Sunday Art at the Beach events, with quality art vendors. Family-friendly Movies on the Beach arrive Friday evenings in August and September. PARENTS NIGHT OUT Parents Night Out

Capitola Recreation offers a Parents Night Out at Capitola Community Center. This is a perfect place for your child to spend a fun Saturday evening with new friends while you enjoy a moment to yourself. Your child will have a great evening with games, pizza and a movie all while in a safe and supportive environment.

2013 Twilight Concert Crowd photo Twilight Concert 2025

The Capitola Twilight Concerts are held Wednesdays 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. June - August. The Concerts are held at the Esplanade Park Bandstand, with the one of largest dance floors around.  Bring a picnic or dine at one of our many area restaurants, many of whom sponsor our concerts.  Seating is on the lawn, seawall, benches or the beach. Please bring your low back chairs or picnic blankets. Warm jackets suggested for cool evenings.  No alcohol or dogs in the park or on the beach.

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2025 summer events.  Performers selections will be made in late February and bands well be contacted in early March. Due to limited staffing hours we will only be contacting selected bands.  Check back here in early March to see a list of the bands selected for 2025.  For an opportunity to be considered as a performer for any of the 2026 events please return to this site in October through December 2025.  Any questions please contact kbarreto@ci.capitola.ca.us

Capitola Plein Air Capitola Plein Air

Capitola Plein Air past shows welcomed up to 40 professional artists to visit Capitola to paint the town...literally!  Artists set up their easels on the cliffs, shores and streets of beautiful Capitola to paint live for four days. We had hundreds of paintings on display for sale and entered into competitions during the final day while the exhibition was held. We are looking forward to a memorable 2025 Plein Air event from November 3-9th (Dates tentative). New Location details to follow! FREE MOVIES at CAPITOLA BEACH 

Movies begin at dusk. All movies are shown on the bandstand stage in Esplanade Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring seating.  Low back chairs and blankets are recommended. Consider bringing a picnic dinner, or dine locally at area restaurants.  No alcohol or dogs on the beach.
