PRESENT:

  • 2015 – The City contracted with Moffatt and Nichol for preparation of a condition assessment of the Capitola Wharf and the development of options for strengthening the wharf to be more resilient to storm damage and deterioration from the marine environment.
  • 2016 - Voters  approved the Measure F sales tax to, in part, protect the wharf and beach from storms and rising sea levels
  • 2020 - California State Coastal Conservancy awards the City $1.9M for the renovation and expansion of the Capitola Wharf, known as the Wharf Resiliency and Public Access Improvement Project
  • 2021 - Completion of Phase 1 of the Wharf Resiliency and Public Access Improvement Project completes urgent repairs to the steel piles at the head of the wharf and repair the wharf structure underneath the restaurant
  • December 2022 - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awards the City $3.5M for the Phase 2 of the Wharf Resiliency and Public Access Improvement Project
  • January 6, 2023 – Capitola Wharf closed due to extensive storm damage
  • September 18, 2023- Site preparation and staging of equipment and materials to begin
  • Monday September 25, 2023- Construction will begin
