SOQUEL CREEK LAGOON

The Capitola Department of Public Works conducts seasonal management activities at the Soquel Creek Lagoon. The primary purpose of these permitted activities is to manage and enhance habitat for protected fish species. Conditions within the lagoon including water levels, depth, temperature, salinity, and turbidity are monitored and adjusted. Depending on the time of year and the on-site conditions you may observe staff and biologists conducting a variety of activities including collecting data, conducting fish counts, making changes to the sandbar, and removing kelp. All of these activities are authorized by a number of permits that the City maintains with the following regulatory agencies: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Coastal Commission, and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

VEGETATION REMINDERS

Everything grows so quickly! This is a friendly reminder that vegetation or landscaping needs to be trimmed as to not block or obstruct the public right of way. The full width of the street or sidewalk in your neighborhood needs to be free of vegetation. Visual impediments can be a danger to pedestrians and vehicles. Please see the documents below for further information on requirements.
