Ideally, candidates will have law enforcement experience gained through a career in a community with similar issues and complexity. The Police Chief will be an active member of the City Manager’s management team. Participating in executive-level meetings with fellow Department Heads and the City Council, the Chief’s contribution will be above and beyond traditional police services and will cover broad City issues. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in criminal justice, police science, public administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Also required is five years of progressively responsible supervisory and administrative law enforcement experience, three years at the command level. Current or prior California law enforcement experience is highly desirable. The salary for the Police Chief position is $128,000 to $155,000 annually, depending upon experience and qualifications.
