Successor Agency
City of Capitola, as Successor Agency to the former Capitola Redevelopment Agency
The Capitola Redevelopment Agency was formed on June 24, 1982, with the adoption of a Redevelopment Plan, mostly covering the area of the 41st Ave. Mall. Pursuant to state law, the RDA was formed mainly to improve infrastructure such as streets, curb, gutters and sidewalks, and help to provide affordable housing. State law requires that 20% of RDA tax increments be invested in the production of affordable housing. These funds can also be used to leverage other funds, such as CDBG, HOME funds, and other similar funds.
The City of Capitola has many housing programs funded by RDA funds.
Per ABXI 26:
Effective February 1, 2012 The Capitola Redevelopment Agency will become the "City of Capitola, as Successor Agency to the forment Capitola Redevelopment Agency." In addition, the housing assets of the RDA Low and Moderate Income Housing Fund will become the "Capitola Housing Successor."
