Town Hall - Capitola Wharf Temporary Use 2024/2025
Town Hall Temporary Wharf Use Meeting
When: April 30, 2024
Time: 5:30 pm
Where: Capitola City Council Chambers, 420 Capitola Avenue, Capitola, CA 95010
Following storm damage in January 2023 and the more recent demolition of structures housing the Wharf House Restaurant and Capitola Bait and Tackle Shop (both City-owned and leased), the upcoming Wharf reopening in Fall 2024 will feature a different experience, with no permanent structures at the end of the Wharf.
Upon reopening, the City intends to lease a portion of the Wharf for bait, tackle, boat rental, and associated services. Additionally, amenities such as public bathrooms, a water filling station, 40 regular benches, 4 picnic benches, and 4 scenic viewing stations with binoculars will be installed. The owner of the Wharf House Restaurant has indicated they do not wish to provide temporary food service on the Wharf.
To better understand public preferences for additional TEMPORARY uses from Fall 2024 to Fall 2025 while the City finalizes its long-term plans, we invite you to participate in this special Town Hall meeting. During the meeting, city staff will provide an update on the planning process, go over the results of the recent Capitola Wharf Temporary Use survey, and discuss next steps. Attendees will have the opportunity to provide input at the meeting. This in-person meeting will also be available to watch live on the City's YouTube channel.
