General Municipal Election
Election Results
The Capitola General Municipal Election is conducted by the Santa Cruz County Elections Department and is consolidated with the Statewide General Election. To register to vote, find out more about this year's Vote-By-Mail process, or get information on the Presidential Election please contact the County Elections Deparment (link below). Election results from the November 8, 2022, General Election were certified by the Capitola City Council on December 8, 2022.
City Council Seats on the Ballot:
The Capitola City Council is composed of five council members all of whom are directly elected by the registered voters of the City of Capitola. Each council member serves four-year terms and the City Council elects a mayor and vice-mayor annually.
On the November 8, 2022, ballot, there were three Council seats up for election and five qualified candidates. Capitola's registered voters were able to vote for three of the following five candidates:
- Enrique Dolmo, Jr.
- Joe Clarke
- Alexander Pedersen
- Gerry Jensen
- Yvette Lopez Brooks (incumbent)
How to Vote this Election:
Every voter was mailed a County Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot booklet. The ballot package mailed to voters includes an “I Voted” sticker and instructions on how to return your ballot safely.
How to Return Your Ballot:
- Ballot Drop Boxes: There is a secure ballot box installed in the parking lot in front of Capitola City Hall/the Capitola Police Department, at the new Capitola Branch Library, and at the Capitola Mall
- In-Person Voting Locations: The In-Person Voting Location within Capitola City limits is New Brighton Middle School's gym and performing arts center. It will be open Saturday, November 5 through Tuesday, November 8 for in person voting
- By Mail: Your ballot comes with a prepaid postage return envelope. If it is postmarked on or before November 8 and received by the elections official by November 15, 2022, it will be considered received on time
Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) Filings
The Political Reform Act requires candidates and committees to file campaign statements by specified deadlines disclosing contributions received and expenditures made. These documents are public and may be audited by the FPPC and Franchise Tax Board to ensure that voters are fully informed and improper practices prohibited.
