City Swears In New Treasurer
Christine McBroom was sworn in as Capitola’s new treasurer at the Sept. 26, 2013, City Council meeting following her unanimous appointment earlier that month. Ms. McBroom will serve through December 2016, completing the term vacated when the elected treasurer resigned in July.
Ms. McBroom served as the chair of the City’s Finance Advisory Committee for the last two years and will continue to sit on the Committee in her role as treasurer. Ms. McBroom is both a resident of Capitola and a business owner in the city. As the founder of Lanai Financial Services, she is an accredited asset management specialist and well-versed in financial practices.
“I look forward to working with the City Council and staff to help our wonderful City,” said Ms. McBroom after receiving word of her appointment, “There will be challenges ahead for Capitola, but also some real opportunities for us all to make a positive difference for our City.”
Capitola Mayor Stephanie Harlan welcomed Ms. McBroom to her new role, saying, “It is a good sign for our City that someone of Ms. McBroom’s caliber and experience is willing to serve in public office. I hope she can continue to play a role in Capitola for years to come.”
